The human microbiota is made up of trillions of cells, including bacteria, viruses and funguses. The largest populations of microbes reside in our gut, the gut microbiota. The microorganisms living inside the gastrointestinal tract are also known as gut flora. Microflora in the gastrointestinal tracts of healthy individuals differ from those found in diseased individuals.
